Is there truly a Matt and Cyndi Merrit 71 full race car? Or is this a game graphic? For that matter who knows T. Upton running a 71 Pantera in FIA class CVAR vintage races? Or W. Cotter 72 Pantera at GR Chrysler Classic Speed Festival running against a Ford GT 40? As reported by Bob Singer, we had 19 attendees, including a new member Steve Nye and his friend Ken Leighgen - uncertain of the spelling on Ken's last name. Art Stephens showed for the first time in a loooong time! Welcome back.> Steve's Pantera is a '72 1/2 w/late bumpers and early dash. It's mostly a stock yellow Calif. car but purchased in Oregon. He's currently working on a leaking radiator.> A real highlight was seeing Paul Westberg’s new body styling and paint of his Pantera. It's a GORGEOUS car with a 427 "Hammer" motor from PI. License plate says 565 HP and I don't doubt it.> Dave discussed the HB Concourse - 6 Panteras on ASPHALT instead of grass. It was an extremely hot spot meanwhile the number of cars seemed less than normal.>Shirts are ordered with our new logo. These are polo (golf) and long sleeve denim types $25each. Plan on getting yours soon. For that matter order one along with our new hat for each member of your family.> Belmont Car Show is 9/11. Forms were handed out to register your car. Check w/Dave if you want one.> Ron Novak gave a treasury report. The $6,900.00 in account puts us on sound footing for this year.>Jerry Sackett got his new red w/white stripes Ford GT. Ask him for a report.> Rick Kincaid's old car was sold to a gentleman in No. Calif. (PCNC). Ronna's home is in “Romantic Home” magazine. For those who haven’t been there, it is truly a showpiece. Remember, Ronna IS an Interior decorator.
Historical
Plates again.
California
Legislators removed the rolling 30 year exemption. I believe Pantera owners would be wise to register their favorite
ride as a Historical vehicle. Outlined
in an article by John Wilson in the May issue of PCNC Newsletter, this special
interest plate is smog exempt under code 27.070 of the registration manual
(pages 27 & 28).
Our
cars qualify for Historical Plates because they are at least 25 years old, are
of special interest limited production – sold less than 2,000 cars in
California VC5051 (b), and is “…operated principally for the purposes of
exhibition and historic vehicle club activities” VC5004 (f). According to one CHP officer, the
“principally” provision allows for other uses of the car legally.
You
will have to give up your vanity plates if you decide to double your exemption
status. Historical plates are numbered
sequentially with no other option and cost all of $25.
Please remember that what the lawmakers give us they can take away and
that these plates may not be exempt from the “sniffer” road tests. My understanding is that the law contradicts
itself here. Don’t forget that our
lawmakers negotiated the 30 year rolling feature to gain our support in the
first place --- promises, promises.
Do you have a
Pantera project for a tech session?
Call Rod 714 374-8177 to schedule it.
I have two volunteer workshop sites and no one interested. Is it time for us to have another fluid
change tech session?
