Concours d’Dragon: Running of the Beasts! By Carol Ann
Michelle Dragon Foundation, Los Angeles, CA a Nonprofit Corporation for the Aid
of Homeless Pets www.DragonFoundation.org.
When you need to make some NOISE … who you gonna call???
Team Pantera of Orange County roared up to the
starting line by hosting the first-ever Concours d’Dragon: Running of the
BEASTS that took place in Southern California on July 15th, 2006, an
event to raise awareness for homeless pets suffering in silence in our city and
county shelters. They kicked up the
octane as they joined with Dragon Foundation to “Make some NOISE for homeless
pets!”
TPOC lead the way as a gathering of some of Southern
California’s finest exotics, sports cars, muscle cars, hot rods and customs
left Newport Beach’s beautiful Crystal Cove and cruised up the California
coastline. After a showy jaunt down Main Street in Huntington Beach, the BEASTS
(cars and drivers) zoomed off to Geezer’s Restaurant in Santa Fe Springs for a
Car Show, Silent Auction and rockin’ After Party with live music by the band
Earthquake. Greeted by a flag-waving,
cheering crowd of Party Animals (party guests), the BEASTS roared into the
Beast Only Parking area and headed inside for a cold one at Geezers!
Our own unique awards were bestowed upon participants
by our beautiful and distinguished judges, and I am proud to announce that the
LOUDEST BEAST award went to Paul Westberg’s nitrous-burning 1972 Pantera and
the GROOVIEST BEAST was hands-down a hot yellow 1974 Pantera de Tomaso driven
by Gary Wyatt. Steve Wilkinson of Panteras by Wilkinson won the CRAZIEST BEAST
award in his awesome 1928 Rag-Top Truck. This is one event where it is OK to
bribe the Judges, and it even says “I bribed the Judge” on the top award, “The
BADDEST BEAST of ALL”! Our beautiful
Celebrity Judge, Claudia Wells, from the movie Back to the Future heated up the competition as she cheerfully
accepted bribes and stirred up the animal in our hot-blooded Beasts. Funds from
the event benefited the programs of the Dragon Foundation in their work to save
abandoned pets in our shelters.

Please send any changes
to Judy McCartney at jpoca2@hotmail.com ‘cause we’re considering sending a TPOC
roster to you. Check your phone
numbers, email address and most importantly your associate’s name. Oops, it’s not normally listed but we do
want it for our database anyway. Then tell us what info you’d like to
include or exclude in the roster to all our chapter members. I’m considering placing all the info into a
TPOC directory for you.
Missing members are those that did not attend the last meeting at Mimi’s. Of the 93 TPOC members, only 11 were there to help direct the club’s activities. Please consider marking your calendar for at least one meeting this year. The downturn in number implies that I should not encourage everyone to attenc.
