Ready for fluids change www.ocpanteras.com
February 2007
Tech Session March 10 at my home 1107 Main St. HB to prep
your car for Las Vegas and work on an exhaust leak for Patricia McWalters. Let’s do fluids and any other minor repairs
you seek while the lift is open.
Las Vegas is soon upon us so make your
reservations now. Read your POCA
newsletter.
Irwindale Speedway with Foothill chapter promises a fun filled day with a chance to drive
the Speedway in a parade of Panteras.
Let’s show everyone how to really drive these old cars.
Track Time. Sign
up with Jim Saxton 626 285-2024 now for next Willow Springs on Mar
3-4. Let him know if you want to run on
the Button Willow track too. It
is sometimes used by PCNC so they are surely invited. ORR guys can sort out their cars.
Las Vegas convoy

before the hwy 15 to LV. Two convoys
are scheduled for the run…one on Wednesday and one on Thursday.

me.
Feb 23-25 SanDiego Big 3 swap meet. Lot’s of parts for sale.
Mar 3-4 Willow
Springs Open Track sponsored by Jim Saxton 626 285-2024. West Coast Racing featuring Panteras and
Ferraris invites you to run all makes & models at speed on the Willow
Springs road racetrack in Rosamond, just north of Lancaster. Jim and Cherie Saxton host both Pantera and
Ferrari clubs for this two day event twice a year. TPOC helps registration on the 3rd as a fundraiser (please
volunteer). So, bring your car and
experience the fastest track in the west (often the site of new car testing as
seen on Speed TV). The cars are divided
into 4 classes based on your skill level from pro to novice (instructors
provided) and car preparation. Or, come
and make the TPOC treasury grow by helping with the registration and enjoy
watching some very fast, expensive cars race.

Newsletters are posted on the web site in its own section for those who would like to see the color photos contained herein. Mailed newsletters are typically in b/w to reduce costs. Please let Judy know if you’d like to get your newsletter via email, by post or both.
Please send any changes
to Judy McCartney at jpoca2@hotmail.com ‘cause we’re considering sending a TPOC
roster to you. Check your phone numbers, email address and
most importantly your associate’s name.
Oops, it’s not normally listed but we do want it for our database
anyway. Then tell us what info you’d like to include or exclude in the
roster to all our chapter members. I’m
considering placing all the info into a TPOC directory for you. Is privacy a concern?
Just ask Phyllis if you would like a free TPOC badge. We urge each of the 93 members to wear them proudly.
Write an article of your own and submit it to Mike Drew or Jack Deryke.
What would I do if I blew my 351C 2V engine? Well, I can hardly imagine having a Boss 302
in my Pantera. This killer TransAm
monster twisted quickly for any road course.
While reading some old Hot Rod magazine
articles, I found that I may save those heads to build my Bogus Boss. Luckily, my brother-in-law allows me to hold
down my garage floor with his ’66 289 and he didn’t use his ’73 302 crank in
building his street Mustang or should I forgo it for a steel one. Cross drill the crank for more oil. Add Roush 2 bolt main saddles for extra
strength. Cam it with slightly more
than 290 degrees. Get some 11.5:1
lightweight slugs for std or slight overbore for my close chamber 64cc 4V
heads. Use 289 or 302 HP rods C9ZZ6200B
with 3/8 rod bolts. With the open
chamber 2V 74cc heads I’ll use the 11:1 pistons for an 8.8:1 static. Restrictor plugs limit the oil flow to the
cam to have longer time for the mains.
Elongate the mains’ holes to hold more oil and open to 3 holes in the
top bearing inserts similar to that recommended by Chevy for their HP
engines. Skip the high volume or high
pressure oil pump but blueprint the stocker.
Reduce oil blowout with threaded plugs.
Mill out the dampener weight.
Back the engine a 22 pound steel flywheel. The objective is to have a very light rotating assembly that is
internally balanced.
Modify the heads by drilling 1 inch holes to notch
and plug the stock water passages front and back with a disc and silicon. Using a Boss 302 gasket mark and open new
11/16 water passages near the front intake ports. Get Boss push rods, guide plates, valve springs and rocker
studs. Keep the Cleveland roller rocker
arms for the 2.19/1.71 valves with 3 angle cuts. Oh how they breathe!
Feed them with matching Cleveland intake manifold
with 650-850cfm holley depending on how well the engine is prep’d. A 7-8 quart pan covers the windage tray.
So don’t throw away your old heads. Send them to me.
TPOC Roster is under consideration. Would you like to have contact information of the chapter members? Is so, what information would you like printed?
